Does GSM apply to self-adhesive label materials?

GSM applies to the paper components of the construction, most usefully to the liner, which is specified in grams per square metre because its strength and machine behaviour follow its mass. Film facestocks are specified in microns instead, since thickness rather than weight governs how they conform and cut. A full label specification often quotes both, one for the face material and one for the liner.
